 Post subject: Hood Release
PostPosted: Wed May 05, 2004 1:36 pm
Anybody out there have a good way to fix the hood release? I am assuming this is a common problem. Both my truck and my uncle's have broken. The cable for mine is all messed up, and each time I secure it to something, it keeps shredding worse and worse.

I went to a local custom motorcycle shop and bought a new inner and outer cable. They sold me ends to attach to the cable. I cut everything to size and fitted the ends on the cable. I frayed the cable ends a bit and soldered the end fittings to it. It works good enough to where you really dont know it's not stock. It's been holding up for 2 years now so far. The mech at the motorcycle shop was a crusty fart and complained that nobody gets cables for motorcycles but for everything else. He liked to bitch about that but you couldn't help but laugh.

The hood and the latch itself may not be lining up to each other. Make sure that the hood is centered and square to the truck. You can make some adjustments by loosening the 4 bolts at the hinges. Once your sure the hood is straight, lower the hood and try to see if it lines up centered to the latch. The latch does have some side to side adjustment to it. I have to think that the hood and latch are binding. As for mine, it's been bent, tweaked and smashed but if it's lining up with the hood correctly, it works like it should.
