I called them long distance before I sprung for my Mallory Unilite for my 80 LUV. They said no but if I wanted to send them the distributor, they would engineer and make one for me. Might take a few weeks, tho.

As I remember, the cost wasn't too great. I was turned off by the down time I couldn't drive my LUV. I had a Petronix in my 72 F250, and it was working great 20 years later when I sold the truck.

I have 3 Pertronix in My Dtasuns and installed one on a Jeep and a Corvette.

I know for my Datsuns I had to have a single point Hitachi distributor.68-69 70-73 will not fit So if a 68-69 contact set for a 510 is the same as a luv for that year it will work. So go to the parts store and compare the 2. If not forget it
It will not fit the dual point distributors.
If you have a dual point(as in the 510s) it will not work.

They just mount where the screws hold down the points.
Cheap system that works great if it fits your vehicle.

I personally dont like the Mallory Unilites. I hear of to many failures.

so where to i find a cheap(under$100) elec. ign. set for my luv? I've heard bad thing about the malory too.

the sets that i've seen are relativly not too expensive but you need an expencive coil to go with it

i'm consitering a switch out from a isusu truck, but i don't know what years are compatible

The part number of the 80 LUV and 81 LUV are almost identical. The last number is the difference. It's solid state ignition and I would think work.

http://www.partsamerica.com/SelectParts ... istributor

Go to partsamerica and enter your yr vehicle . Go to disributor and it will show the difference(photo). It shows electric for the later yrs

The 74-75 looks like a Datsun 510 distributor with a different bottom tang installed. Thats it.

I went with Crane Cams XR3000 for mine, and I love it. They support the Nippondenso distributers that came in the later LUVs, so its basically an out-of-the-box conversion. Doesn't take too much time and cost me $100. I definately recommend it.
