I was replacing a couple vacuum lines today and when I bumped the throttle cable I might have inadvertantly figured out why my truck runs soo rich.

My carb model is the late model hitachi DCH340. When I bumped the throttle cable I saw the jet shoot some gas. But, above that, just under the air horn assembly, I saw something leak. I looked in my Haynes and checked the diagram and as far as I can tell it's either the Pump Discharge Needle Plug or the Primary Slow Jet. But anyway, when I pull the throttle gas shoots through the jets and seeps out of this thing, over the Bowl assembly and into the carb and down into the intake manifold. :?

Anyone know what my problem is :?: Is it an easy fix or do I need a complete rebuild, or a new carb :?:

Thanks for all the info Shane, you must think I'm some helpless geek by now with all the stuff I keep asking about..

But anyway, if that's the problem, how do I adjust them?

Its cool I had the same problems when I bought mine and this where I asked questions too, well anyways heres how to adjust it,

The dry float level is adjusted by holding the carburetor body inverted (upside down). Lift the float off the needle valve and then gently lower it back onto the neede without putting any force on the needle. Measure the distance from the bottom of the float to the very right of the float and the bottom of the carb bowl, (since it is upside down it will be the bottom). Anyways this measurement should be 21/64-inchif it is not bend th float tang that sits on the needle but try not to push down on the needle to much as it will screw it up. The float drop will be measured with the float pushed the opposite way of the needle to where the top tang touches the side of the bowl and this measurement should be 1/16-inch on the bottom tang where the needle and bottom tang are suppose to touch.( just use a 1/16-inch drill bit for that measurement. Let me know if you need more info. Shane

It sounds like you're talking about the accelerator pump, which gives a squirt into the throat when you step down on the pedal. This enriches the mixture so the vehicle won't stumble upon acceleration.

It's the primary slow jet plug that's leaking. It almost looks like it's just come loose or something but my luck usually isn't that good. I don't know what it does, but from my exploded carb picture I know that's what it is.
