ok now it will run but when u hit the gas it kills it and u have to wire the choke half closed to keep it runnin if not just starts up and dont run for no good do yall know if it needs rebuilding or just a massive cleaning

Sounds like a vacuum leak leaning out the mixture.

I agree, Luvnit and I got my 76 to idle, then sprayed carb cleaner around different spots on the carb. Suprise, suprise, the rpms jumped up when we sprayed around the base gasket.
Check all your vacuum hoses, then maybe try the carb cleaner trick. Just do it before the truck isn't too hot :)

Almost sounds like you have to adjust the choke. On my 75 with a series six engine in it, there are three screws that you loosen up and you spin that sucker around until it is closed like 5/8ths of the way.

Then you tighten them suckers back down again. Now if it is the series 4 engine, you will prolly have to adjust the mixture and check for cracks in the hose and whatnot to make sure it isn't sucking air.
