is that a V6 or a straight 6?
I thought they were straight 6's.

Yeah them old Fords used Straight six's. Tough ol' engines them things. We got one in our fuel truck, just keeps ticking. MEPR knows these engines pretty damn good, I'm sure he would agree with me

i'd say the 300 is one of the better sixes out there, and one of ford's best truck engines(don't think they use them any more though :(). reliable as hell, and lots of torque

I think they made 260 ft/lbs of torque at 2000 rpm!

well the 300-6 was mde from 1960 to 1997 i think. They discontinued production becouse they wouldnt fit under the hood of the 97-03 body style. As far as durability, YES. I have flogged mine perty hard and keeps coming back for more (im actually thinking of getting a second one). As far as stock performance, 120hp and 210lb-ft. On mine im running an intake dual headers and a 500cfm Holley, whith it bored and head port and polished and a 9:1 comp ratio. Im putting 210hp and 320lb-ft to the ground

do not let your dad swap in a v-8. The 300 will pull better than any of the other small blocks and gets mucho better millage. When mine was stock and running good i was getting 17mpg in town and 22mpg on the highway. And it was still able to pull just fine. If you need another carb i still have the carter monojet off my 300. It was rebuilt right before put the 500 holley on it.

the 351w is a good motor, but it's one hell of a gas guzzler. i'd stick with the 300

the 300 makes better torque numbers than all the motors right up to the 400. Its an almost equal bore and stroke motor which is what helps in this, it has a 4.0" bore and a 3.92" stroke if i remeber corectly.
