um i would just check and make shure all your cenections are good. Also check the fuses, my fuse block was incredibly dirty and would cause my gages to fail when i made a left hand turn

MEPR, you coulda left it dirty and only made right hand turns

I watched a show once on fear and there was a lady from England that was deathly afraid to make right turns, so she just mapped everything out so she would only turn left. Said it took longer though....imagine that! 8O

I got a good one too! Whenever I would turn right, my horn would blow! There was something inside the steering wheel that would depress the horn switch and make it go off!! Wouldn't do it everytime, sure kept me (and bystanders) on our feet though  ......Then it finally wore the horn out...now it don't work :(

if you converted your whole 81 ignition system into youyr 80 make sure you didnt forget the igniter, it sits on top of the coil and just a little to the side, mine is having problems just like that, it sucks bigtime, trace your spark back to the source, test your distrbuter, all your points and see if your getting spark from there, then check your coil, you may just have a bad link cable, I replaced all of mine and my truck ran fine for a day or so, then it strandedme, the key thing though is to make sure you have that igniter, its your ignition control module, if you dont have that then you dont have spark, other than that I dont know what the problem could be, im sure you checked all your links and cables , I wont tell you to do that cause I hate it when people tell me to do it...

One thing your fuel pump won't come on with the key it's controlled by a relay. So it has to be cranking at least to make it work.

Specifically, which lights won't come on. Outside or inside?

The headlights come on. The engine will turn over. But it won't start. The electric fuel pump is not running. There is no electricity getting there. No spark coming out of the distributor. The windshield wipers work. I've checked the fuses and rechecked them for loose wires. Is there a fuseable link somewhere that may have burned into or a wire under the dash. The previous owner had spliced in a whole lot of wires to run to different things and some are not colored the same as originally. Thanks alot for your help. Any more help would be appreciated.

Maybe your eyes can see better than my old eyes. Sure would be nice if the wiring diagrams would unfold to the size of a desktop. Then I could troubleshoot without needing my bifocals plus a magnifying glass. The ignition resistor relay and the fuel pump relay have a common power source. If you have better eyesight than me maybe you can trace it out on the wiring diagram. You need to take a troubleshooting light and start tracing back from the coil of each relay to where you finally get power from a common source to each relay coil. Somewhere along that length they join together. From that point backwards toward the ignition switch may be a break in the wire or corrosion, which causes high resistance and doesn't allow enuf current thru.

Good news. I have the Luv truck running. I swapped the fuse block for a spare one out of another Luv truck plus swapped another couple of wires that looked really bad and it started right up. Remember I swapped the electronic ignition from the 81 Luv parts truck I picked up earlier this week and it worked good. Now it has the same problem it had before I did the ignition swap. The generator light stays on all the time. The fuel gage doesn't work, the heater fan doesn't work. Headlights work, brake lights work, etc. I read that someone else was having the same problem with their generator light staying on, so I swapped the voltage regulator and alternator out of the 81 parts truck. It was a bolt in swap. I know the alternator is charging because with it running I can pull the positive battery clamp off and it continues to run fine. But the problem still exists. I appreciate any help on getting rid of this problem.
