i decided to try and readjust my tappits to make sure they were right...I started out by adjusting cyl 1,3 intake to .006 and then did 2,4 to .006. After i thot all were done correctly i went back to 1,3 intake and checked them. After adjusting and then turning the shaft around to check them they were different! Of course i didnt have the shaft in the EXACT same spot but it was somewhere the lobe isnt lifting the rocker, close to exactly opposite the lobe. So whats going on here? Why is it 2-4 thousands difference when i check it after I had just set it almost perfectly? Is there an EXACT spot you are supposed to have the shaft turned to, to set them?

In my HAYNES manual it says to turn the motor TDC on one a compression stroke, then to adjust #1 intake and exhaust, #2 intake and #3 exhaust. Then turn it to TDC on an exhaust stroke and adjust #2 exhaust, #3 intake and #4 intake and exhaust. .006 for intake and .01 for exhaust.

Do what Narcisist posted. Use the TDC timing mark on the crank pulley and you shouldn't have that variation.

I've had to adjust mine alot. And it always looks great, all the valves are spaced just fine when I put mine back together. Problem is. . .When I'm driving down the road at about 45 mph, or slower if the trucks warmed up, I get a extremely noisy lifter noise from the engine. That noise is the only thing that keeps me from really pushing to see what my top speed is.

I am afraid you left out a bit. Before you adjust #4 valves and #2 exsaust and #3 intake yoiu must st #4 to TDC on compresion. Intake is set to .006 and exsaust is.010
