PostPosted: Wed Mar 17, 2004 2:27 am
Have a 81 4X4 Luv that we just recently got running again. We put new brakes on the front and fixing to put some on the back as soon as they get in but here's my prob when ever I hit the brakes they just go to the floor you have to pump the about 3 times to get it to stop at under 10 miles an hour. We did bleed the brakes all 4 of them. They alson didnt work when ever we got it started up a couple of days ago. Any kind of help would be great.

that happened to me on my Nova. i replaced the master cylinder and got alot of pressure back, but not all of it. then my buddy told me he saw fluid comming out from under my wheel. my wheel cylinder was shot. threw in a new one and some new brake pads(4 wheel drums) and it was fine. i had to adjust the pads a few times after driving a bit, but now they work great.

your rear brakes might just need adjusting. i have no self adjusters, so i know that when i have to pump my brakes, the rear brakes need adjusting. the first time i hit they pedal it goes pretty far down, the second time they are good and strong. i have a new master cylinder and after i adjust them they are perfect. it could also be your master cylinder. if after you put your new rear brakes on, if it still happens, then you may need to replace your master cylinder.
