So im still running my stock hitachi in my 79 4x4. I rebuilt it recently but every time i let off the gas and come to a stop the damn thing stays idling where i had it idling for cruisin down the road...which is way to fuckin high for sittin still at a stop light...i have a spring on the throttle linkage pulling it back down but it still doesnt idle down. Any ideas?

Does it smell like it is running rich, like maybe the choke is stuck?
Only thing I can think of at the moment.

it runs rich but it isnt the choke sticking

Had a similar problem with my Hitachi. The idle adjustment screw that's supposed to rest against the stop on the linkage wasn't. The cable housing nuts that adjust on the mount bracket beside the carb needed to be adjusted so the spring could draw the cable out until the idle adjustment screw bottomed against it's stop.
