 Post subject: PLEASE HELP!!! URGENT!!!
PostPosted: Mon Mar 01, 2004 12:23 am
i put my motor in today and got everything hooked up. the radiator leaks, and i am missing a motor mount.

my problem is, it idles, but it runs real bad, i mean, i havent driven it yet because it wants to die everytime i try to let out the clutch. it trys to die when i rev it up too. i need it to run good in a less than a week. it has the stock 1.8, that has been bored over, a cam ground, and it has a holley 5100 carb on it. the carb is the same thing as a 32/36, so i was wondering what jets i shoud run to get it jetted right. i think that is running to lean, but i am not sure. thanks

kyle

Follow the adjustment info and that will at least tell you where you are on the idle jet as far as lean/rich. Of course this sort of presupposes that nothing else is keeping it from running right enough to tune. If you can't get it running at least passable by adjusting the carb (smooth idle, little/no stumble) then the carb jetting is probably not the source of this problem. If I had to guess, I'd be thinking ignition troubles, points or timing. A vac leak could also be there, use the standard spray carb cleaner around the intake and carb and listen for changes in idle.

sounds like ignition, points could be out of adjustment. with it running pull plug wires off on at a time and see if all cylinders are hitting good. if the points are too far off it will only hit on 2 cylinders.

i dont think that it is the ingniton, cause i put new points and condenser in it, and my dad helped me set up the points, and it has a new ignition on it. i hooked up all of the vacuum lines except for one, and it stilldont want to run, ill hook up the other one tommarrow. i timed it to 6 degrees. i guess i have to play with the carb now tommarrow. thanks for all of the help, keep it coming.

if the carb is a Holley you have to remeber that theres a mixture screw for each barel. If only one is adjusted the motoir will run like crap.
