It did turn out to be the crankshaft pulley seal. I was so relieved that it wasn't the pan gasket. Two parts that made the job hard were getting the pulley bolt off, and getting the seal to go in evenly without bending it too badly. I didn't think the old suzu 4 banger was going to have enough power in her to break the bolt free. On my old 78 toyota it broke free first try. The luver took a couple tries to get it to break. Wedged the rachet up against the frame under the radiator, and gave her a crank. Eventually it broke lose. Then it took forever to knock the new seal in. I bent it a little bit, but it doesn't seem to be leaking. I just hope it doesn't shorten the life of the seal. Anybody know of a tool or method to get that seal in without bending it or messing it up?
Thanks guys for your responses and help.
