A while back some of y'all were posting about reinforcing the clutch pedal arm mount bracket under the dash so it wouldn't bend or break and let the pedal arm drift outboard and screw up shifting gears. Can anyone describe or post a picture of where this bracket should be attached? I've got the problem for the second time now. The first time it was a cracked weld right where the pivot point is. Now I can' tell for sure what happened this time. But I sure don't feel like having to mess with this a third time.

find a whole new/used one out of a different truck and put it in...im assuming you have a standard tranny. I had this problem and mine broke completely off. When u put the new one in inspect the length of the clutch cable and make sure it is pulling the clutch fork straight to reduce strain on the part that holds the pedals...i found mine was all F$$%# rigged up so it was putting massive strain on the clutch pedal making it hard to push in and f@#$% up the damn pedal stuff over and over...what year do you have? i might have a replacement for you...

Thanks for the info. I just popped the hood a few minutes ago and I see one turn I'd like to increase the radius of. I pumped some oil thru the cable housing a while back. I've got an '80 LUV. It's low mileage (80k and only 70k when I bought it a half dozen years ago), 4speed, 4WD, and even has air conditioning. The parts lady at the local Isuzu dealer here in the Idaho Panhandle found a possible replacement bracket at a GM dealer in Calfornia. I'm waiting on a call back to verify that. But I may take you up on your offer if California doesn't pan out. The reason I want to fix this problem right and not revisit it is cuz I'm getting a little too long in the tooth to be rolling around on the floor under these rigs all the time and doing all those uncomfortable contortions to get at something. I retired from the Air Force as a mechanic 25 years ago and will be 67 in a couple of months.

wowzers...in that case ur not gonna like replacing that stupid bracket...if its the whole thing its a pain to replace...and since you have an 90 i dont have the right one for your vehicle. SOrry!!!! But, i found somebody who was parting out a luv and requested they send me theirs...ends up theres was sorta messed up too but it worked better then the one i originally had. I'd take a look in the classified forum on this site and ask around if anybody is parting out one...im not sure what years are the same for that bracket...i know they arent all the same! Sorry I dont have the right one...good luck!

something that might work better whith some modifying is that same braket out of a trooper. In my 90 it looks alot like my luvs (also an 80 4x4 4speed) only it has bracing on the other side (so instead of being open on one end its like a U shape that bolts at both ends to the cab wall).

I had the same problem with my 79 LUV and apparently the previous owner had too. The previous owner had cut the clutch pivot pin loose from the rest of the assembly and welded it back to the bracket. The weld broke on mine so I made a 'U' shaped bracket the width of the sleeve on the clutch pivot and bolted it to the firewall in the proper place. It was a real pain in the ass getting down there to it and I'm a little guy. That was about 3 months ago and everything is still working great.

my clutch bracket under the dash broke like many of yours. my solution was to get a piece of angle aluminum 4" by 2" and cut about three inches in length. the 2" side is bolted to my floorboards with two bolts. the long end was drilled the same size as the upper attach bolt for the clutch pedal. the factory bolt/pin was long enough to reuse. it's solid as hell and has been going strong for nine years/75,000 miles. it took about an hour to make and install.

As soon as the weather turns a little warmer here in the rainy Northwest, I'm putting the LUV in the my garage and taking the bent bracket out. Since I have bucket seats in it, I think I'll pull the driver's seat. It'll give me some more room to work in. Then I'll see what kind of repair I need. Did you leave the bum bracket installed and use the angle extrusion to shore the bracket up and brace it? Or did you weld it back together first? Can you post a picture or drawing here or maybe email me one, so I can better understand how you made your repair?

I have a parts truck that has a sort of "shoring up" bracket put on it to fix this problem. Next time I get near it I'll snap a picture of the fix. It is really simple and 10x stronger than replacing that stock bracket even with a brand new one.

The part the clutch pedal hooks to is also what holds the brake pedal, and bolts to the steering collumn. With everything hooked to it, you can't really junk it and start over so you have to rework it and just strengthen or shore it up somehow.

Well yesterday, I phoned the local Chevy dealer and talked to the parts man. When I stopped by later, he told me he could get a new bracket from the factory. I wrote him a check ($70) and await the new bracket's arrival in about a week. But I still want to strengthen it, so the problem doesn't re-occur. I plan to take my time and do it right. At my age slow and easy is a necessity. Plus it ensures you get the job done to your satisfaction. Like I said earlier, I only want to do this once. So all this feedback everyone is giving me is appreciated. And I would appreciate a picture, 800XL.

when you get the bracket....just put a bead of weld up each side of the flat plate that is spot welded to the bracket body...that is all I did back about 7 years ago and I have had no problems with it.

The part number for that clutch bracket is 094027039 and nomenclature is

I took a couple of quick snapshots of my bracket installed. If anyone wants me to send a copy, shoot me a mail at roadshowbob@sbcglobal.net. I don't wanna clog up this post with pics if no one needs them.

Cheers!
