i don't think you'd have to worry about the stocker rear much. if you need a rear end upgrade, i'd go with a rear off a 4wd toyota. it's strong, 6 lug, and cheap, but the only problem is that it's designed to be run spring-over-axle, so you might have to do a little welding

after I put my buick V6 in with 5 speed I used to think that was best for daily driving.
reliability and power all in one combo. :D

I have had an S-10 rear in since 1995 or so.....no problems with it.
although I didn't have a problem with the stocker rear until I was doing a smokey burnout and hit second....grenading the rear, tranny and ujoint....

youll be just fine whith the stock rear. Im running that combo whith a motor thats bored and and has the head milled and i 4wheel mine ALOT. The stock luv rear is more than adiquate for the 4cylinder. Other than that, i am in full agreement whith Kyle. The Toyota 8" rear end is a tank! But if you whant one look for one out of an 86 or newer truck as the third member has more ribbing, the axle tube is a larger diameter and it has bigger brakes :)
