I was wondering if anybody has used ”Por 15” I have quite a few rust spots some all the way though, the worst is on the finders which I plan to replace when I locate them. I don’t want to spend a lot of money and time on a product that doesn’t work. Are there any other products similarly to Por 15?

I used POR-15 on my frame and I also used the Fiber glass stuff with the silver Por-15 and putty on my floor pan. That stuff is great, it's hard as metal that you can drill. My floor pan had a few holes , some about a 1/2" in diameter. Now it looks like new and seem it will hold up for the long run.

POR-15 was one of the few things responsible for bringing my LUV back from the dead. I know most of the guys on this forum are from the western part of the country but I'm in Connecticut. Here you often see surface rust even on cars built with good metal that are only a couple years old here. The LUV body was made with Japanese metal which, from the LUV's era, was definately NOT known for its quality. I kid you not when I say that when I bought my LUV, you could literally stand looking at one side of the bed and see my buddy standing on the other side. The bed sides were rusted entirely through in a big way. Sections of the frame weren't much better.

Anyway, I know this seems like a long post so I'll try to get to the point. If you have rust thats eaten through anything, heres the cheapest way possible to repair it and it WILL hold if you do it right. My LUV has been through 4 winters outside since I did the bodywork and POR-15 and there isn't even the slightest hint for rust.

First, grind down the rust with a wire bristle attachment mounted to a power drill. Make sure you get the panel on BOTH sides around the hole and down to bare metal. There shouldn't be even a hint of rust surrounding the hole. Now comes the POR-15. Paint it onto the edges of the hole and surrounding metal. I know that you can paint POR-15 right over rust but I wouldn't suggest taking that kind of a chance on a body panel. On a frame thats fine to do.

The next step: take aluminum tape (a couple bucks at an auto parts store) and cover the hole from behind with it. Basically what you're doing is creating a backing for the hole. After that, you'll need a fiberglass based Bondo. What that is is bondo with strands of fiberglass in it to make it really strong and resist absorbing water, which normal Bondo will do. Finally, POR-15 over the aluminum tape you put on the back of the panel. You're good to go, and it'll last. Best part is you don't need to weld anything or even buy new panels.

Sorry for the tremendously long post but I hope that helps you and anyone else looking for a cheap and long lasting fix.

Thanks for that info Beetle!! :D On my Luv I have about six little pinholes and one hole about the size of a dime on my drivers floorboard, and I didnt want to have to put in a whole new floorboard just for those, and my welding skills are not all that great!
Well anyway I have been wondering about the Por 15 as well, I have seen numerous ads about it and was wondering how well it worked and if anyone here had used it and what kind of applications you had used it for.
Later
Husker

I used por15 on my truck also. I used the por putty to fill the pin holes in the floor and to seal up some of the small holes in the firewall that I didnt reuse when rewiring it. I painted the floor, the front seation of the frame,(so far) & got some of the engine paint also. Its good stuff. All of it.
