well i took my cylinder head in to have it cleaned up and i guess it was 23/10000 warped or something . also the valves are being reground. do i need to make any adjustments to the valve settings if my head is shaved? also does $200 seem spendy or is it just me?

Check ebay. I bought a new casting from a guy on there a while back for ~$250 with shipping. If you need it right away, though, you gotta do what you gotta do. To answer your question, the $200 price isn't too bad considering the rarity of parts for these motors. Make sure the guy checks it for warpage before he shaves it or it may be useless afterwards.

from what i have heard, the 1.8 litre isuzu engine makes to much compression for the head gasdet to take it. beings hw it has a aluminum head, and a cast iron block, it isnt easy for a head gasket to seal to the block and the head. they make a shim that you put in that makes up for a surfaced head, ill try to find out were to get it. but from what i have heard, these engines have problems with head gaskets.

200 bucks is about right for head work on an overhead cam engine. I used to be a machinist for napa and we built heads, engines, starters, alternators, etc. That sounds about right, if he is doing everything. Baking the head, surfacing it, gnurling the guides, grinding the seats, and grinding the valves. Dye penetrant to check for cracks around the seats is a good idea also.

if the head was twisted would that mean the cam shaft could be twisted too? also do you know anything about adjusting the valves after having the head shaved? thanks

You would have to just follow the repair manual. I don't remember off the top of my head how to run the valves on the 1.8 isuzu.

I doubt your cam is warped. As far as the valve adjustment goes, you loosen up the keeper nuts on the rocker arms and use a screwdriver to adjust them. You then just tighten up the nuts again. Your local machine shop should have the adjustment specs for it if you don't have a manual.

yeah its not hard to adjust valves, loosen off the rocker arm nut, n put ya feeler guages between the valve stem and the rocker arm, turn the screw til its at the right hight then tighten the nut again

when you warp a head, its not warped much, just enough to give you head gasket problems, i doubt you could tell by looking at it that its warped. your cam should be fine, the head being shaved won't effect the way you set the valves either. i wrote up a detailed description on how to set the valves in another post here is a link to it: http://forums.luvtruck.com/viewtopic.php?t=3295
