Good evening, I have a '79 Luv 4x4. The alternator stopped charging the battery ( I only had 12.2 V or so at the battery with engine running). I replaced the alternator and still have the same issue. I ordered a voltage regulator and that hasnt fixed anything. I made a mistake and shorted the +wire at the alt to the alt housing during install. The truck runs fine but still not charging and also the voltage surge blew the light bulbs. The highbeams work but thats it on lights. All of the fuses are ok. Anyone have any recomendations on where to start? Thank you in advance.

One of the wires on the harness going to the alternator should have 12v fed to it when the engine is running. I don’t remember which. You can try unplugging the harness and supplying 12v to either of the ports while the engine is running and see if that convinces the alternator to start charging.

Thanks for the input! I fixed a wire close to the battery and it’s working now.
