Hi,

I'm a new member that recently purchased a 76 LUV all stock with about 85K miles on it. Got is running and seems to run ok but there seems to be an excessive amount of pressure in the engine. When I remove the oil filler cap with the engine running there is air/pressure/blow by coming out of the valve cover. Do I have a crack in the head? Emissions system problem? Has anyone experienced anything like this before?

Thanks,
Dave

Do a compression test on each cylinder. My first guess would be excessive blow-by from a severely worn cylinder, broken piston rings or possibly broken piston.

Compression is good. Lowest cylinder was 120. The other 3 were 145-150

Could it be a blown head gasket?

These engines run with an abnormal amount of pressure. Every one of them I've owned do that. I don't know why, they just do that.

Ok thanks. I guess I'll just run it and see what happens.
