Maybe you have a loose wire that makes ground contact when the radiator fan blows the air. The LUV wiring was pretty shoddy to begin with. You could run some new temporary wires for the coil and distributor from the battery. Then disconnect the stock wires and try again. See if the engine continues to run....if so, there are problems with the old wires. Here in the desert, pack rats are a common problem and they 'chew the heck' out of everything beneath the hood. Could be a rodent problem. I have lots of 'extra' wires o my '77 as a result.
