Last 2 days after doing a baring and brake job i get vibration between 20 and 30 mph., I am thinking it is a problem with the front end WELL. This morning i am driving to work with a very sever vibration. As i am going up an on ramp to the freeway and BAM I lose the drive shaft. As i look under i see 3 bolts have broke and one is missing where the drive shaft connects top the rear end. THANK GOODNESS THE WIFE COULD PICK ME UP AND DRIVE ME TO WORK. Hear is what I need your help with.. The truck is on the side of the highway and i need to do the repair their after work today. But I do not know what size bolt i need 3 ARE SNAPED OFF AND ONE NEEDS A HAMMER TO GET OUT. CAN ANY ONE GIVE ME THE SIZE OF THE BOLTS I WILL NEED TO MAKE THIS REPAIR. I can borrow a truck on my lunch to go get them.THANKS SOO MUCH. I HAVE 7 HOURS AFTER THIS POSTING TO GET THIS DONE. YOU GUYS ROCK!!!

OK A THOUGHT CROSSED THRU MY HEAD. IF I TAKE OUT THE DRIVE LINE TO THE REAR I COULD DRIVE IT WITH THE FRONT WHEELS BUT MY CONCERN IS THAT THE OIL WILL LEAK OUT THE BACK OF THE MANUAL TRANNY WITH NO DRIVE LINE? THANKS

nope, oil won't leak out of the back if you pull the driveline. it should work alright with the front wheels if you put it in 4wd hi though

it'll probably be an easy fix once you get it out of there, especially if you only sheared off some bolts

well if your having any problems whith it still i have the drive shaft bolts from my 78. They were a 12mm bolt. Well just dont drive the truck alot on the front, you can and will run the tranny dry whith out the yoke there. It will get you home that way but dont drive it like that. Good luck

The bolts that you need to repair the driveshaft are 12mm I'm not sure how long they need to be, but the hex head needs to be the same size as the original and need to be grade 9 or better or they will shear off again. I had this happen to me, the drive shaft came off and tore a 6 inch gash in the side of my gas tank, sounded like the engine and trans. were gonna' come out, lots of luck!

Don't forget, 12mm METRIC. Don't let them sell you the standard bolt, you'll strip out the threads then ya gotta tap and die it to a bigger size.
