I got the truck to idle but it was kinda rough and when I would give it gas and let it go it would idle low and then idle high it would do this every time I gave it gas, and to top it all off the truck overheated while I was playing with the idle, it went all the way to right before the H on the temp gauge, I thought that sucker was going to blow. I think I have to get a damn water pump now  :?:

make sure you don't have a vacuum leak. take a can of starting fluid and spray all around the carb, just stay away from the air intake. if the engine speads up, you have a vacuum leak. a vacuum leak will make a engine run crazy. your overheating problem sounds like a stuck thermostat. try removing the thermostat and see if it overheats. a way you can check the water pump is have the engine running with the rad cap off and check to see if you see water circulating in the radiator. this will only work if the thermostat is open.

I had that problem too when the fourth spark plug was fouling. In all of my trucks, the fourth plug always got caked with goo. All of them. I have had three.
