Well had it running great exept, the clutch pedal kinda felt funny so i look at it and its bent to the left about 2 inches with a crack in it ...
so im like ok i can handle this with my miller, go to take it out and it has a
system that makes it so it has to come straight down ....through the steering column? no have to take it out along with the master brake cylinder thingy. yea any advice would be much apreciated, seeing as this is my first truck. it is gonna be the end of me .....
thanks

All I can say is, while you have all of that apart to fix the clutch pedal, fix anything else you see that needs it. Now is the time to repair it.

hehe. Yeah, I know the feeling. Is there a way to pull only one side of the steering column, and remove just the clutch pedal off of the hanging assembly? I can go check on my parts truck to see what would be the easiest. I will post back in a little bit.

It is not easy, but you can squeeze it out without removing the steering or brakes. It helps if you take the guages out so you can get at it from the top. They are held in by three wingnuts two at the left side, one on the right. The speedo cable needs to be unhooked, and might as well unplug the harness from the gauges and just get it all out of your way.

Once you have that opened up, you bring the pedal braket up then back out of the hole in the dash some, giving you enough room to get around the brake master cylinder and such. You still bring it out the bottom, but the extra room given by the guages being gone allows you to move around things.

Once you get it out, weld the crap out of that clutch pedal mount. I had mine break when I was about three hours drive from home. Lucky for me I like shifting without the clutch, but I wasn't looking forward to going over a snowy pass that way. My brother in law was kind enough to tack it back together with generous amount of MIG wire so the drive home was a bit easier and it has held several years now. As you can see already from how hard it is to get out, its worth pouring some metal on there to make it last, instead of really half-assing it.

From what I've seen on the trucks I have, this isn't that uncommon. I have one truck that has a chunk of 1/4 plate welded place to hold things together and that plate has even cracked. The cable clutch setup puts a lot more stress on the pedal bracket than the old master cylinder. If you do end up looking for a replacement part, it does have to come out of a 78 or newer with cable clutch. The 77 and older hydro clutch uses a different mount and seems to send the force into working the clutch instead of breaking the mounts. I've yet to see a broken older style, but plenty of broken cable clutch mounts.

I actually just had a friend of a relative call me looking for one of these things and discovered just how many broken ones I have. Tip for anyone who gets close to pulling that bracket out: yank it while you have a chance and weld on some extra support.

well said 800xl
yes I have had my fair share of bent ones, until I purchased a new one from GM and welded it up before we put it in. that was about 5 or 6 years ago....no problems since.

Could you not re-inforce them in some manner with a shroud or something? Or jb weld a stip of steel to it?
