Hi guys, I'm having trouble with the slide levers of my heating unit below the dash on my '77LUV. I can move the lever from heat and defrost freely, but trying to move it over to the left to vent and a/c it stops cold between heat and vent. So, how much trouble is it to remove all the under dash venting and plastic to fix it? Where are the mounting bolts? Anyone ever find a solution? Thanks.....Don

Hey Don.....

that center control/heater assembly is fairly easy to remove... there is 3 nuts underneath the ashtray, then 4 bolts to the firewall....the manual they have in the front of this website is pretty inclusive to its disassembly.

I am local here in Phoenix if you need to make some copies of my shop manual. Let me know.

thanks, Ben

Hi Ben......Thanks for that information. You make it simple. Every time I just think about getting into the dash of any car, it scares me about like having to learn Chinese for a job! I'm having troubles with a GMC S 15 a/c vacuum system right now. The system has gone into default mode and the cold air comes out of the floor and the defrost vents. I've been working on it for a week now and conclude that the problem is behind the dash.....Oh Noooo........

It'll be in the shop manual. If you have trouble downloading it, drop me a PM with your e-mail. I have 77-81 shop manuals on CDROM.

[EDIT] Just realized the shop manuals are not there. I uploaded them to the facebook page, but didn't realize they weren't here. Drop me a PM with an email address to send it to. Make sure the email page can handle an 88Mb file.

[EDIT 2] Heh, looks like I'm gonna have to figure out another way. My email will only handle an outgoing file of 33Mb. Lemme look into dropbox or something.

You may just need to oil the cables. They're basically like a bicycle brake/shift cables. Just look up under the dash at them (or with a mirror) and check things out.

Hey guys, thanks for the hints....I finally dug around my shop 'library' and found a series 7 chevy LUV factory manual. Like you said,...There is ample information in the first few pages. Tell you the truth, I haven't had to work on my '77 LUV in so long that I forgot I had the factory one......Ha. Thanks again, Don.
