Redid top end. new head gasket, timing chain, water pump, thermostat, oil pan gasket, and even new vaccum lines. Starts up and idles but makes a rattling sound when I turn it off. Buddy told me I'm not getting any oil pressure. But I cant figure out why at all. Any suggestions. Thanks guys.

I wonder if when I had the oil pan off. if some rust or dirt had gotten into the oilscreen and gunked it up and oil is not flowing. what could cause the oil to stop circulating?

Are you sure it's not oiling? Have you plumbed in a pressure gauge at the sending unit? Or at least pulled the valve cover to see if oil is being pushed to the valve train?
Lots of things besides no oil pressure can cause a noise.

Yeah, I'd be inclined to pull the valve cover, put a splash shield of some sort over the timing chain and fire it up ever so briefly. You'll know pretty quickly if it's getting oil or not. Those valve stems need lots of lube. As do the valve rockers...

Pulled valve cover. there is oil in the allen key head bolts and some oil residue on head. So it must be sending oil around. what is making the grinding type noise I'm not sure.(when engine shuts off) it was not making the noise before I started rebuilding the head. not a slap, or clunking. just a slight grinding. someone said mainbearings. but diagnostics for me is harder than actually putting motor back together.

Get one of these

https://m.harborfreight.com/engine-oil- ... 20provided

Auto Zone also loans them. Be damn sure you've got low oil pressure before you proceed.
