So, I am trying desperately to get my 74 LUV, all stock, back on the road. Rock Auto had everything I needed for the hydraulic part of the brake system, and it was reasonably priced as well. I'm having a really hard time getting any sort of pedal out of it now, it had a decent pedal before I did anything to it, and if I block the front brake lines with line clamps, I have a rock solid pedal. I've tried several different ways of bleeding the front, and adjusted the front shoes several times. Is there some sort of secret to getting them right that I haven't done yet? Rarely do I say this, but I am at a complete loss on this one. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Edit, just saw the title and realized you were operating drums, not disk. My comment doesn't apply.

There is a rod between the brake booster & master on disc setups that must be adjusted to an exact length in order for the master piston to travel the correct distance with each stroke of the pedal, I assume the type same adjustment is found on drum applications . A FSM will have the dimension, it will be similar to the attached pictures. I fabricated a test gauge/tool from aluminum flat stock, but a credit card would also work.

Did you r&r the wheel cylinders? Make sure the bleeder is at the top. If they can be (I'm not for sure) but if they can be installed wrong, with the bleeder at the bottom, it would create the problem you're having.
