I've been trying to get my 1980 LUV back on the road. Timing jumps around and I am troubleshooting it. Timing chain has maybe 300 miles on it, complete new distributor with point gap at .018", new plugs gapped at .030", temporary ground wire to dizzy and temporary hot wire from battery to resistor by-passing the wire harness to rule shorts out. Timing light still shows misfire and timing jumping around about 4 degrees. I want to change the points out to a Pertronix electronic module, but can't find one specific to 1980. My question is, what changed internally to the distributor where a Pertronix for a 1974 dizzy will not work on a 1980 dizzy? Point size should be common, so mounting should be the same. Same four lobes on the shaft 90 degrees apart. The Mrs. is somewhat miffed at me for not being able to get it running and spending money on parts I can't use on the eventual V8 transplant. Oh yea, new dizzy cap, rotor, and plug wires tomorrow.

I copied this from my post a few years ago. This was for my 78 and it worked fine.

Contact a Pertronix seller by phone or in person, and ask for a
Reluctor ring 18433 and a
Module kit 16430
These will screw into the old points screw holes and work great. I love mine.
