Used is probably your best option. New gears & the parts to install would probably be prohibitively expensive. The 3.42 gears were also in certain gas-engine trucks. Around '84 there was one with the "MPG" label, it had the G200Z 1.9L engine, 4-speed tranny & 3.42 gears. This was prior to the gas 5sp trannies introduced in '86. The 1.9/4sp lasted through '87, don't know if they retained the same rear gears though. '78-'80 automatic trucks had 3.73 gears, manuals had 4.10s, the same trend may have carried over into other years. A 2" taller tire & 3.73 gears will give nearly the same final drive ratio as 3.42 gears. Don't forget the 3.92 Impulse gears, turbo models were LSD. You must add a thrust block to use in a drum brake axle though.
