I recently broke the secondary timing chain (that drives the camshaft) on my '75. Had the head checked, no damage done. No marks on tops of pistons.
I bought new chain set and replaced. I lined up the timing marks as the book says to, crank tdc #1, distributor on #1 and the cam tdc. It runs like it's still off time though. It moves the carb butterfly and spits gas (like it's off time). I read on several links on this site to put it on tdc#4. Tried that and the same thing happens. Was wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what is wrong. The marks are all lined up, why is it still off time?

Thanks

Have you tried to rotate the dizzy to retard or advance the timing slightly? If it starts to smooth out, this should tell you that it isn't too far off
