The truck took a hard swerve to the right and I was able to get her back but can anyone tell me what might hve happened? I was traveling about 55 mph and luckily I was able to correct it but any ideas of where I should start to look for problems?

You didn't hit anything or run over anything did you? Just trying to rule things out.
Do you have any loose lug nuts on the rims? If those are ok, I'd look over steering parts like tie rods, ball joints. Maybe something came loose, or maybe something got damaged. Hard to say without more information on what happend and history of labor on the truck.

BE SAFE, hard to say BUT Its time to jack up your front end and check it out turning the wheels both ways.

I had this same thing happen to one of my LUV's years ago, it was quite exciting when it would do it just driving down the road. Check the front wheel bearings, that's what the diagnosis was on mine.

Caliper locked up. I've had that experience several times.
