Anyone have experience cannibalizing Luv cabs? I have 2 cabs and both have their share of rust, but fortunately not in the same location. I'd like to cannibalize both cabs to build one solid cab. So, I'm curious if there is any experience out there? Tips, advice, comments? As this goes down the road I'll post pictures.

Initially, the radiator support and back cab panel on the better cab need to be replaced. Rockers and floor are almost perfect on the newer cab, where the donor cab are ate up.

Thanks ya'll.

I've got the original carb, just rebuilt. Same old problem, trying to get the idle and running speed to get along. Just the nature of the beast. I was going to stick it on ebay. If your interested in it pm me. Rather let a club member that can use it

Cab -- not carb.

Body work is a PITA. All you need is pack of thin disc, welder (spot welder is best however might on low setting works) some all metal filler. I like to use a small droll bit to drill into corners of pieces I cut that way I can take new and lay over old drill to match and cut. Take panels only do not cut support cross members in body. Usually best to overlay your new pieces meaning cut them from support to support or seam to seam.

The biggest rust issues are the radiator support and the back cab panel. Radiator support doesn't seem too difficult, a few spot welds and it's out for repair. The tougher piece is the entire cab back panel, will the cab need to be braced prior to removing the panel?

If your cutting entire back out. Yes tack some strips in. When you cut old one out you will see how flimsy it becomes.

Here are a few pictures of the rust to repair. My first thought was to replace the entire panel, but I may be able to just patch using sheet metal from the donor.

Seems to be all of the way thru. I'll glass bead it and see what we've got. I imagine pinholes and very thin remainder.

Just below the cross cab support.

It may not be to bad if you take small bite I would still brace it.

So, got the cab cleaned up to see the extent of rust repair needed. It's not insurmountable just daunting. Fortunately, we have a donner cab.
The radiator support needs attention, we cut the spot welds and removed the support from both trucks. Now it's a matter of making one good support out of the two.
The darker support is from the donner.

I would bolt it to the frame first so you can keep it straight.

That was my plan. Didn't figure eyeballing it would work out really well. I've got good pictures for alignment. So, we'll see just how it turns out.

Looks like I'll need to replace the passenger fender well. The battery box has been removed and there is rust damage on the fender. Fortunately I have a donner cab with a good inner fender. Now to cut the spot welds and remove the inner fender.
