Does anyone know if there is anything you can do to make your spedometer right if you put bigger tires on my luv? I know it is gonna knock it way off but I would really like to have one that works because the cops in my town dont really like me already. Please Help.

I don't think you can do much, since the LUV's are all mechanically driven Speedo's. Like there is no computer to fiddle with. Don't quote me but it think there is little gears in you transmission that effect the speedometer. They can be swapped out to accomodate the different tire sizes. You can also use them to make your speedo right if you change you gear ratios in your axles.

typing in stereo, LOL!
Yes there is a gear in the tail shaft of the luv tranny that determines speed. I dont kn ow if anyone will carry it (i havent tryed for mine) but first you have to find out what percent the spedo is off. Whiht my 28" tires its off by about 10%.

you should be able to change the gearing for the speedo, but dunno how often you might come by something like that for the luv.

Check to see if there is a speedometer shop in your area. They can usually put an adapter in line where the speedo cable goes into the tranny to gear for the proper reading. I used to work putting Detroit Diesels in pickups, and we had to do this all the time.

I've read somewhere that the Isuzu manual trans has come with several different speedo gears with differing tooth counts. I'll try to look up the info in a couple days. Should be able to get a smaller tooth count and correct things at least somewhat.

I'll try to look up that info tomorrow when I get off this temp dialup link and back on DSL. Next time I move, I'll know to order phone/DSL services a couple months ahead of time. ;)

Is there not an adjustment screw in the spedometer in the cab that can be adjusted? I thought at one point in time that you adjusted that rather than the tranny gears.

regear your diffs. it also makes up for the power loss with bigger tires...but i don't think there's any sets for a luv :(

Would you want to regear if you are going with a slightly higher sized tire? It would be more work than it is worth if you only have a 2% change. I don't think that 2% is too much out of line, but 10% is out there.
