My 79 long bed has a bad time in the heavy rain! The other day I had to really rev it to get going from a stop every time we hit a red light. It runs fine when it's dry or in a normal rain, but bogs down really bad when there is a downpour. I've replaced about erevything in the ignition system in the last few years, and the carb has been rebuilt.

Sounds like a distributor cap issue. I have had them bad new. Check under the cap and see if there is any deposits (usually whitish)... IF not, plug wire insulation breaking down is my next thought...

I'll take a look at the cap and wires in a bit.

Mine tends to have issues with misfiring in the rain. I keep a can of WD-40 and a rag under the seat. Starts acting up, pull over, pop off the dist cap, spray it, wipe it out, and put it back on. Works just fine after that.
Anyways, cheap insurance.
No buildup or carbon tracking, just a little bit of condensation for me.

I didn't see any problem with the cap when I pulled it the other day, so I will try the WD-40 method and let you know how that works.
