OK so this 1972 chevy luv is giving me hell. I can get it to run for about 30seconds and then it dies. Bought because the engine had been rebuilt but it was giving the original owner the same issue. Just hoping someone could help. Have it at the mechanics garage and even they can't figure it out. Any ideas will be appreciated.

Check the voltage to the fuel pump while cranking and then running.

The fuel pump gets power two different ways. It'll get power while the key is in the crank position and then it gets power from the alternator once the key is in the on position.

The bowl on the carb could be filling up while you crank it, and then the pump stops and it runs off the fuel in the bowl for a few seconds.

That is correct if it has been converted to an electric fuel pump. 1972 models had a mechanical fuel pump stock.

Get your mechanic a series 1 (1972) LUV manual.
