Ok, so a few weeks ago my bypass hose sprung a leak. I did a little research here and figured this was something I could easily handle. I went ahead and switched it out with a new one. Before this happened my 1980 Mikado 4 speed ran really good. When I bought it the guy told me the temp gauge didn't work, but after driving it for a bit it was working fine. Just had to wait for the engine to warm up. Anyway, after I changed the hose, I drove it around, and the temp gauge went all the way to high after 10 minutes of driving. I was sitting at a light as it was at the max line, started to go, and it just dropped all the way. I noticed the heater was no longer really blowing. That night it was really cold out, and it would just die when I put it in neutral to stop. The next day, same thing, cold as balls out, would just die when I let off the gas. It's been pretty nice out lately and it drives just fine, no dying. Heater still doesn't blow for shit out the vents, but blows out the top vents and the floor vents just fine. AC works great, blows hard when on. When I changed out the bypass hose, I unbolted the stock air cleaner to get a better look (guess I didn't need to, still couldn't see shit), so I just put it back in place and bolted it back on. Did I jack something up, or is this possibly just an easy fix? I'm not super mechanically inclined but have a basic understanding. Please let me know your thoughts. thanks

Check the electric choke on the carb. Also another thing you should check is the thermostat. Without the thermostat the engine won't heat up in the cold of winter.

Sounds to be, did not bleed the system properly.
and it most likely overheated.
How is the coolant level looking?

It had leaked out before I replaced the hose. Then I filled it up after I replaced. It looks fine now. I did not bleed it.

In that case,
there is a vacuum line that connects to the air box. did you reconnect it?
also, there is an solenoid near the bypass hose, cable runs near it. is it still connected?
The temperature sensor is right under the thermostat. See that it is still connected. It is also near bypass hose.
for the carb, there is a connector as well, runs next to the bypass hose, is that still connected?
