Well I finally got her to idle, I dont know what the hell I did but it was idling for a little bit sounded good too, when all of a sudden it died , so I looked at the float level it was too high so I took the carb back off and the little thing that holds the float in place came off so I adjusted the float level and put the little thing back on and put the carb back on and it started to do the same thing it did before, idle up and then cut off. I am so baffled with this truck. So it is definitly carb related, so does anybody have any suggestions. Thanks

I don't really have advice for you being in CA I assume you need the stock carb for it. Otherwise I'd say on the advice from others here go with a weber. Glad to hear you've decided to keep working on it though. Sounded like you were just really frustrated, when you talked about selling it. Anyone on here close to you and could maybe help you out?

Keep at it,

Dennis

do u know anybody that has a luv? you could borrow there carb to see if that was definitely it. sounds like it might be starving for gas. since it ran fine right before it flooded out. didn't you say that was a new carb? if it is could u try the old one again? if it isn't new maybe u should take it back off and take it to your local machine shop and get it and all the insides boiled out, then put a kit in it. hope this helps. keep us posted on how it turns out.

No I dont know anybody out here with a luv, so I think I'm just going to take the carb off and rebuild it and yes it is a brand new carb, paid 300.00 for the damn thing to not work is really shitty. Well I put alot of money into it after I bought the carb because I figured it could'nt be the carb since it was brand new. But here is a list of what I have done to it. I bought a new alternator, new regulator, new wires and plugs, new cap and rotor, new points and condensor, a new head gasket  , took off the intake manifold to get it checked for cracks and got it resurfaced, got a new universal fuel pump, new hoses for fuel line, a new egr because I'm in CA. This is why I was so frustrated with it and wanted to sell it. But we'll see what happens after I rebuild the carb. Thanks Guys

I got three autozone carbs before telling them to just keep em and give me back my money. I bought a 32/36 dgev weber and didn/t have any more problems with my carb.

humm have you replaced the fuel filter. A while back that was giving me a world of trouble. Another thing you might whant to check is that the carb is tightened on evenly. I didnt get that right on my f-150 the first time and it wouldnt run. Just a few easy things for you.

Does the weber carb bolt to the stock intake manifold or do you have to get a diffent intake?

Same intake and it is SOOOOOOOO much easier to work on. The webers are very easy to rebuild/rejet. They are just a better carb all around.

Webers do require an adapter to bolt to the LUV intake. The bare carb will not bolt onto a stock 1.8 intake. I'm not sure what "stock" intake would take a Weber bare carb. I believe Datsuns and perhaps Toyotas shared the same intake pattern as the LUV though, so adapters aren't too hard to come by. Also, if you order a new Weber kit for the LUV, it comes with the right part.

I was really drunk last night when I posted about the carb. I forgot about the adapter plates (yes there are 2 that you have to bolt together) .

I am kinda hung over.

Yup. O'Reillys universal pump on mine. No problems after I finally figured out the aftermarket pump relay I had to buy. My relay died and I had to get a universal five pole relay. I drew up my own diagram if anyone needs it.

You can get a weber carb here. The kit comes with the appropriate adapter.[/url]

Try to talk to someone at customer service at carb.net and see if they can sell you just the adapter. I am sure they will have no problem.
