I need carpet really bad but dont want to pay about $100.00 for a pre cut kit. Has any vone installed carpet and cut it and have it fit just about as good as a molded one pice kit? any seams? how well did it turn out? What was the size of the pice you started with? Thanks for your response

I have previously put carpet in my truck that wasn't molded and it looks ok....nothing like molded, but it will do the job.
it was household thick carpet too.

I have a friend that did it himself and he just bought the automotive carpet and glued it in except for 2 channels so he could run wires for his stereo and as long as you cut straight seams so you can line up your splices it looks great.

did it myself jus the other day ago not too hard pull out seat 4 bolts and take old carpet off and lay old carpet on top of new carpet and under both cardboard on the floor some where and get scissors and cut around the old carpet but be sure to leave 1/2"to 1"space when cuttin around so in case your short some  and the holes for either auto or like i have 4x4 with 2 holes doh is tricky so i got lucky with guess work

carpet is only like $10 and get carpet glue in a spray can bout $7 can which i recommend you do cause i put one in before without and i had to do this one again right way not cheat

and prep floor of truck good get it clean spray glue and have another person to help put it in with you i didnt  makes it easier to get wrinkles out and put on when its tacky not wet bout 1min after spray or more

and i also added diamond plate aluminum for foot pads it is rad lookin
and this cool box thing around my two sticks have to get pics though i am pretty proud of the way it turned out for 20 bucks plus free diamond plate scraps :D hoped answered all your questions
