The little vent that drops down when the heat is selected might be stuck. Check on the vent that drops down when the heat is selected

Sorry to bring back an old thread here, but the problem is finally solved! I recently blew another head gasket, so I got another head milled because the old head had to be warped. Along with the new head I installed another intake manifold that I had laying around. While cleaning up the new intake manifold, I noticed that all the water passages associated with the heater were plugged up by rust and debris. So I cleaned all the rust and stuff out of the passages of the new intake manifold and when installed heat works like a dream! No more issue. Figured id post this of anyone else had the same problem

No need to apologize for adding to YOUR POST ! & GREAT NEWS & Thanks for the update.

Glad you were able to see some new light when you had more apart too bad you had to see it thru another head gasket
some people get their feelings / all butt hurt when you don't jump up support their experience..... I say just ignore them their just bumping in the road.

I too found clogs in manifold too the egr was full of carbon from running bad...if it can't breath or let water thru is not going to run good.

& I still need to pull my heater core ...

Thanks! I have yet to pull a heater core, and I really don't want to get into that job. I pulled the ac unit out of my '79 to change the expansion valve and that was plenty of work for me
