So i have a 1980 Chevy Luv, when i first bought the truck, the DMV where i live here in Los Angeles, CA didnt ask me to smog it, so i thought "well i guess its smog exempt" But this past friday i got a paper in the mail that my tags are due on July and i need to smog my Luv at a star smog location. My Luv doesnt have the smog system, and i know for a fact its not going to pass. Do you guys know if even though it has to be at a star smog location i can pay for the smog to be done "crooked" i know its illegal to do it that way, but its my only choice.

I tried to tell you this in January. Best of luck on the smog check. I would guess there are guys out there that will do illeagle smogs, it's a hearty fine if they get caught. When I was doing smogs I was asked all of the time to do them, could have made big money but it's not worth the fines and possible jail time.

I know i remember you telling me man, i honestly thought i was never gona receive that DMV letter, so now my question is.... If I DO find someone that can do it "crooked" is there a diffrence between a "star smog" and a "regular smog"? Or both can be done "crooked" as long as i find someone?

Star test stations are more closely followed by the State. They can do more so therefore under a microscope.

If it says STAR then thats the only testing station they will accept. Good luck on finding any STAR stations willing to risk jail to falsify.

First thing to do is get a manual that will show you what you need.

If memory serves;
Cat converter, smog pump with mixture control valve, AIR manifold with one way valve. Vapor canisters, one under the hood and there should be one in the bed. In addition it must have a PCV system 1 & 4 I believe. Stove pipe from exhaust shield to air cleaner.

luvrv8 might be able to help.

Then try the local recyling yards, see what they've got, and post a list on here someone might have some of the parts as spares. Also try this site http://www.car-part.com/index.htm It is nation wide.

I have gotten exemption when parts are no longer available, thats also a lot of paperwork with the arb.

All post 1966 vehicle have smog sytems and it is illegal to tamper with or remove them by federal law. States have the responsibily to enforce them and each has a different set of laws.

I would ask on the classifed sites on here. Maybe you'll find a fellow California Luv that still has all the smog equipment.
I also found this on Smog Refree program:

The Hard to Find Emissions Parts Locator Service can be reached at (800) 622-7733.
