What do I have to do to fix that. Looks like parts are cheap so I might as well put in a new chain of the old one was beating around in there.

I don't have to take the head off right? Just a timing cover and valve cover maybe?

Pretty sure you need the head & the oil pan off to cleanly remove the timing cover & more importantly get it back on without leaks. Also these are interference engines, if you had a timing chain failure I would want to make sure there was no piston to valve contact, you can't do that without the head off.

Yeah you should plan to pull the head and check for bent valves or damaged pistons
May as well clean up and such while you are in there, fresh head gaskets never hurt a g180

Truck runs great just has a slapping noise. 25k miles on rebuild. Don't want to pull the head unless it's necessary.

If it were my truck, the head would be coming off.

Slapping noise could be piston and valve contact. Especially if your cam timing has been altered due to the chain becoming loose.

You're already going to be knee-deep in it taking the oil pan loose and the timing cover and valve covers off, at that point, it's not much more work to take the head of and be sure. If you've got piston damage, you'll wish you had later down the road when it breaks apart.

Once you get the valve cover off you will be able to see what's what, but expect to pull the head if it broke
You are using a g200 right? They have a stronger tensioner from what I read on ozgemini made of metal instead of some plastic so make sure you get the g200 timing kit when you replace it

Ok I see here is another part number for the G200 timing set.

Does the oil pan come off without pulling he motor out?

Ok the rattle isn't the timing chain. I went to check one more time before ordering the parts and the noise goes away when I take the belts off. I already replaced the alt and water pump. That leaves the clutch fan and whatever bearing is behind the crank pulley I guess

I've never seen the crank pulley bearing fail before...

I don't even know what's in there. My guess is nothing, just the main bearing for the crank. I will pull off the clutch fan and run it.

It was loose/missing crank pulley bolts.
