Thinking of checking to see if the stock carb gets better mileage.

I thought the Offy intakes were made so a Weber was a bolt-on fit without an adapter, if so then a stock carb should require an adapter in reverse of fitting a Weber onto a stock intake.

I thought so too but I've never actually looked at it because I didn't put it together. But I get 17 mpg and I have a Hitachi in my shop.

I get about 15 with a Weber. Most people have said their MPG improved when installing a Weber. I bought mine used, have had it rebuilt since, and the truck runs well, but a little rich. I haven't done it yet, but am thinking about trying smaller jets in the carb. Might be something for you to try?

I had an 81 2wd I bought just for the motor and I think I remember it getting 25 mpg. My hitachi is off that motor.

This is a different truck and motor. Mileage has been getting worse and worse. I will try APP65 double tip platinum plugs soon. I also have an MSD box I can put on it.
