Got an '80 LUV 4x4. Just rebuilt the engine and carb, etc and getting it back on the road.
When the RPM's get too high, either from having it in gear when going down hill or going too fast (around 60 mph), the engine starts to lose power. It's sputtering as if it's not firing correctly. I can't tell if theres too much or too little gas, but I think it's too much. It seems to after-fire, combusting in the tail pipe. Eventually, it works itself out and slowly climbs back up to full power after a minute or so. The problem was lessened after I put a new fuel pump on, and doesn't happen if I drive it correctly. Meaning I can't have it in gear going down hill or go above 60 mph. This also happens if I floor the gas quickly. In that case it loses power immediately until it works itself out. It feels like it's flooding. And I'm not sure how to adjust the accelerator pump on the stock carb.

Other issues that may or may not be related:
- If I go from acceleration to braking hard quickly, the engine stalls.
- Losing power when going up hills, even in 3rd gear.

Any pro tips or dead give aways? Thanks.

Check the float level in the carb, fuel should be centered on the circle in the glass sight window on the front of the carb body. Some of the symptoms you describe can be caused by too little fuel in the float bowl.
