Hello all, My 80 4x4 just started an engine knock. what if any diesel engines will work in this truck. Being in CA we have all the shitty smog standards, so I am thinking I may as well convert it now as I am faced with an engine overhaul anyways. I have access to a shop and fab skills if need be, but if there Is a diesel engine that is a fairly easy swap that would be awesome. I also plan to put a 2 or 3" body lift and possibly upgrade to the trooper 5 speed while its down. Any leads would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Phil

Welcome to the site. We've been discussing this very same topic, as late as yesterday. There's a mountain of info here on the subject, and I'm sure if you search "diesel" you'll find it. Personally, I'd rather not regurgitate the same info I typed in the last 3 days. Maybe someone else wants to do that.
