i have an issue with my tank being full of tar from sitting about 20 years without being drained. i put new points plugs wires and rebuilt the carb and temp rigged the factory electric pump under the hood pulling from a gas can. runs like a top but engine smokes assuming from sitting and rings probably being stuck. it got better the more is ran so hopefully itll fix itself. i added half a gallon of alcohol and about a gallon and a half of gas to the tank hook the pump back up and wouldnt pull fuel. i dipped the tank and found it full of runny tar. i assume it was probably hard until i put the alcohol in it to sit for a few days and now it is runny.

so my question is does anyone have an oldschool remedy to this other than stripping and recoating the tank? i also needed to know if it has a sock strainer attached to the sending unit as im sure it is no good either and were to buy one at. i checked local parts stores and noone has one listed as applicable part.

thanks for the help in advance
Jordan

Let it soak in mineral spirits.
