i just cracked my cylinder head and so i said i dont wanna have to pay 300 bucks for a new one yikes so i talked to some local luv rednecks i got a 2000 cc head from the guy and bought it for 30 bucks good condition its off a s10 and the guy said he had it on one of his luvs before it looks exactly like the head on my luv which is an aluminum head also so i was wondering if their is anything i should worry about when doing the cylinder head swap to a 2000cc head the guy said re torque and valve clearances and i dont know a whole lot about cars i realize putting on a head is kinda hard but i ll have my dad with me to help he has worked on a bunch of cars and also my truck is a 4x4 and its slow 50mph is as high as i can go or it will start problems in my truck that just seems to slow i am sure it could go faster will that head give it some more umph!! sorry bout the big post i made

hey welcome to the site. :D

pull up a bucket and grab a beer :drinking:

as for the head thing.....im not sure exactly the head you are talking about. but i do know that the very early s-10s had izuzu powerplants so i dont see why it would'nt work.

the hardest thing about changing the head is getting the timing chain EXACTLY right. these engines are a zero clearance engine so if the timing gets off too much the pistons will hit the valves and at the very least bend the valves.

oh yeah and watch the head bolt between #2 and #3 cylinders on the right hand side (facing away from the engine) because they tend to strip.

The 2.0 head should bolt right up to the 1.8 in your truck. Go down to a Napa (or the like) machine shop and have them print out the spec for both of the heads. Make sure you have the right size valves and such. Lastly, invest in a good manual (Hayes, Chilton's, or factory). You're gonna need it...

hey thanks for the friendly welcome larp and i will grab a beer and i will watch what you say those haynes manuals dont get all the details to ya i got most the parts off today just the bolt in the camshaft that holds the sprocket of the timing chain i jus cant get off  just cant seem to lock the thing so i can take off the bolt i did what the haynes manual said push the screw down and turn it 90 degrees then i think after that it says i can start taking bolts off by timing chain then the actual head bolts my dad was sick today so i didnt get his help so i am on my own

also if you could answer this for me too please is the reason why my truck goes 50 is cause of the 4.56 gears in the rear i like the gears cause they would be good for muddin and i dont want to swap them out really

Before you pull the top sprocket, run some wire or twist ties through it and around the chain. This will hold the chain to the sprocket so it can't move around. Has always worked for me when pulling the head.

To lock things up enough to get the cam bolt off, stick the truck in gear and have someone stand on the brake pedal. I've never had to get more creative than that, but you might be able to wedge things tighter by pulling the starter and using the flywheel as leverage. In fact, I think the last two times I've had to do it, just stuffing it in 4th gear was enough.
