Haven't been here for a while, so an update is due. I easily pulled the heater/AC blower in my '80 4x4 and discovered it was a non-vented. All the carbon dust and copper dust from the commutator was packed tight inside. I took it apart, cleaned it good, and installed new brushes. Running fine now, although I have to say there isn't much room for wear on the commutator segments. They're not made so you can turn the commutator down on a lathe. Planned obsolescence.
