Well to make a long story short...I put the old coil back in my 75 thinking maybe the old coil was still good and my carb wasn't bad. After making the connections for the new ballast resistor a little neater I started it. Idled fine..so I decided to go for a little spin to see if it was still bogging under load. Well after a quick trip down the highway( 95 mph according to the local sheriff and NO ticket..he likes me) I think I can say it is running quite well!

You had your LUV running 95MPH??? Holy smokes, that's screaming. I would have to rebuild an engine if I tried to run mine that fast.

Well the funny part is about two days later I had issues again. And it really is the carb. I have to stash the cash to get a Weber because I think the gasket material blew out into the passages of the Hitachi. Oh well.

I've got a 79' base model 2x4; stock 1.8L w/ Hitachi. I only drive it a few times every summer. This year I was driving it down the freeway when it just started sputtering and lost power. Any chance the distributor solenoid gone bad could be the problem? It could also be the accelerator pump? I will start a new thread to address my issue. "79 stock 1.8L losing power under load"

Distributor solenoid? Do you mean the ignition coil?

I have only done a valve job(3 angle) vitron seals on the valves and I think he shaved 30 thousandths off the head. I am running ethanol though.I think the motor had a pretty fresh rebuild though. When I did the head the cross hatch was still in the cylinder walls.

My bad, I meant condenser! A complete tune up didn't change a thing for me. My 79' still dies on acceleration.
