So not sure where to start with this truck on getting it running right, hoping someone on here can help guide me in the right direction. Having real troubles getting my truck to idle right. First question I guess, is the factory carb supposed to have an electric choke? (it's an 81) I noticed there is a wire on the back of the carb, haven't traced it or anything so not even sure where it goes. Anywho, i can move the choke by hand from the side, and if i turn the choke all the way on, then back if off a bit it will fire up ok but a little sputty trying to idle on its own..and will run ok on it's own after about 15-20 seconds (meaning not having to give it gas) then it seems to rev fine and run ok..downside is once you get going down the road it doesn't seem to run so great/sputters when accelerating. When sitting, after it has ran a few minutes and started warming up, i can back the choke off and after adjusting the idle had it idling smooth with no choke a couple times, problem then is that when I give it gas it just falls on its face and about dies, let off gas and will resume idle ok. Not sure what is going on here and I apologize if this is too vague or rambling, just hoping maybe someone has some suggestions for things to try! Thanks in advance for any help

Does it feel like it hesitates when you give it gas??

It was doing that, yes. I realized the gas in it could be pretty old so put a half tank of fresh gas in it and that seemed to help some. Also pulled a plug yesterday and color wise they aren't bad, just have a lot of buildup around the core. Going to get a fresh set today and see if that makes any difference at all. My buddy is giving me a tach to put in it soon, so that should help with being able to tune it!

I guess for the moment I have 2 questions, one was from the first post. Is the stock carb electric choke? This one looks to be now that i pulled the air cleaner housing off, but it definitely isn't working as such and not sure how to make it work.

2nd, and this is probably dumb, but where is the mixture screw(s)? for this thing? Idle speed screw was easy it's right on the side, but i don't know which of the others is for the mixture?

The stock carb does have an electric choke and I believe the mixture screw is hidden on the base of the carb right above the intake manifold. It faces out to the right/passenger side of the truck and is right about in the middle. I think there is a metal pressed in cover over the screw from the factory.
