okay so i have a the wiring harness pulled out of my truck,
im tryin to iure out what the deal with all the switches on the pedals are there for, i can understand the brake pedal switch, but there is a clutch and a gas pedal switch as well as a second brake switch
im assuming these are mostly to control the emissions crap or an automatic trans but not sure, im looking over my wiring diaram but its still escaping me.

such as the gas pedal sensor, splits and goes to the clutch sensor (and would go to the auto trans inhibitor switch but i dont have one), to a transmission switch, to an engine speed sensor.... how this makes any difference on my truck i dont know...
can i eliminate a this by wiring around it with a switch panel?

im more or less just in need of the gauges, lights and wipers working. the rest of it is going to be moved around, new relays & toggle switches controing most of it.

There is a switch on the accelator pedal, one on the clutch and one on the transmission that are part of the coasting richer system. There is a box under the dash that controls it and sends info to the carb. You can get rid of it if you want but you should look at the factory manual and wiring diagrams to understand what you are removing.

My wiring was so messed up, burned and spliced, I pulled most of it out from under the hood and dash.
The only switches I'm keeping are the brake and start safety on the clutch.

Good luck on the rewire. Found those spade fittings that lock into the plastic couplers on ebay, if you need them. Shipped from England so took a little less than a week to get them.

For some reason these connectors are hard to find locally, there were allot listed in China, but I found this store in the UK and the prices are reasonable. Hmmmm, seems they are closed until April 3rd.

Hopefully they did not close :(

thanks or the info guys!
a lot of my wiring under the dash was messed with at some point when the last owner installed the old stereo so there are spliced in parts and wires that go nowhere and a few melted wires.
while i was helping my moms boyfriend with his xj cherokee yesterday i realized his fuse box is just what i need or this wiring job, has 7 relay ports and plenty of fuses in different sizes.
going to hit picknpull today and try to find one.

Why reinvent the wheel? My harness is stock amd modified just a bit to what I needed. I think a complete require is much more time consuming then reworking what you have.

mostly because the wiring is 30+ years old and has a bad track record of being reliable, my reverse lights havent worked since i have had it, and i have had to wire around the old relays so might as well get rid of the old system while i can
some of the stock wiring is staying put like the heater, lights and wipers they will just be re-routed to the new fuse/relay block.
im adding toggle switches to a few things, i figured since the harness is already out and on the floor now is the time to do whatever mods i want while its all laid out
im adding all new wiring and relays for the stereo, amp, electric fan, fuel pump and a few other things that need it, im also converting to a 1 wire alternator so i would have to re-route a ton of the vr wiring either way.

I have seen many threads that posters say the stock wiring is bad. I have no issues with mine at all. I have a V-8 in my truck and got rid of the stock relays, added a relay for the fuel pump, cooling fan and for the power to the coil on the starter. I have seen many posters start to replace the wiring system only to never finish. With my stock harness I have everything on my cluster working correctly, I even have the stock fuse block. I also run a GM high put put alt. If you change the harness plan ahead.

too late to back out now
im almost done removing what i dont plan to keep and am laying out the new systems' wiring.
ordered some toggle switches at oreillys so i will have them tomorrow, i got the new fuse/relay box with all good fuses (swapped with the next closest jeep to get the right amperage) and all 7 relays for $40. picked up 5 colors of electrical tape and a few colors of wiring so i can color code the new parts as they go in. the fuse/relay box is going to go where the stock relay box is, im putting the toggle switches on the panel where the stock pull knobs are. i totally understand why people would give up on rewiring but its not all that bad just time consuming
the times i feel like im completely lost i usually give my dad or brother a call and see what i can do, i refuse to start it and quit half way i love this truck.
