Ok..what are the most common sources of problems for the turn signals? I have checked the fuse and replaced it.I have power going to the fuse and after the fuse.I have tail lights and brake lights.I am thinking turn signal switch or the chassis ground. Any other ideas?

what are they doing? Not working at all? You weren't really clear on that part.

Try a replacement flasher unit yet? There are two separate flasher units---one for the turn signals and one for the four-ways.

Yep, what egg said. The flasher units are under the dash. The two prong one is the 4way flashers and the three prong is the turn signals.

Do the 4way emergency flashers work? That would tell you if you have working bulbs and such.

Mine did this. I fixed it by pushing in the hazard switch hard and moving it around. Turned out to be a bad dirty connection. Also check your fuse connections.

My 77 used to do this thing where both the turn signals and flashers would quit working. The solution was to turn on the 4 ways, turn the turn signal left, turn off the key, turn it back on. I never did quite figure out what caused it, or why that fix always worked every time. I think it finally quit having the problem when i replaced the flasher units, or maybe it just hasn't had a chance to pop up again.

800xl, my guess is that the problem was with the hazard switch. If you look at the wiring diagram, the hazard switch interrupts the turn signal switch when it's engaged so a problematic/dirty hazard switch could cause a complete loss of turn signal functionality.

Glad the OP got it fixed.

Guys do the clips that hold the OE flashers come of so you can remount the new ones or not?

There is a nut/bolt that holds both of the OE flashers up under the dash. They both have a tab that sticks out above them that hooks onto the bolt above them both. It is not easy to reach that bolt. I just left the OE parts in and then tucked the much smaller replacements in above/beside them. The replacements don't have the tab, and the OE parts are riveted to the tab. I did eventually clean the old dead parts out of my 79 when I had to reweld the clutch bracket and everything in the dash had to come out of the way.
