Post subject: 73 carb on a 75 Luv
PostPosted: Wed Oct 29, 2003 11:23 am
My bro bought a 75 Luv for my son and its sitting two hundred miles away from me with no carb. I found a 73 carb for it but I have no idea if it will match up properly to the 75 engine and I don't want to waste the cash and order from the other side of the country if Im not sure. We are getting a pretty good deal on the 73 carb so I want to get it if it will work. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Did I ask the question badly or was it a stupid question? Perhaps nobody knows? Thanks for any reply :D

You are getting a lot of people viewing this, but the right one who would know probably just hasn't looked yet. All I have to go by, are my repair manuals which I will look at tonight. If I see something in them, I will let you know.

The two carbs are different in the respect that the 1975 is an upgraded version of the 1973 carb. But from what my mechanic friend and I can tell, you should be able to bolt it right into place. The only thing we can see that will probably take a little modifying, is the attacment point for the accelerator cable. The 1973 carb has a simple arm while the 1975 has a "wheel or pulley" set up. We can't find anything else that would stop it from working, but we recommend bringing some small diameter hose and screws to use as plugs for any vacuum ports that might not be needed. Of course, having the two carbs side by side would be the best thing to work from rather than looking through a book. I sure hope this helps.

The 73 has a manual choke, so you will have to drill some holes and put in a rip cord.

The 75 has a electronic choke, where as it warms up it opens up a bit more.
