Stop me if you've heard this one before:
I've spent the last month playing tag with the guys down at Pioneer trying to figure out why they keep sending me the throttle cable for an 81 LUV instead of the cable for my '79.

Apparently the two generations have been combined? And no one makes the original cables anymore?
He hasn't heard of anyone else calling to complain about this, but he just can't find my cable. No one else I've asked has been able to help me either.

Does this mean I need to fabricate my own? Or am I just missing something really obvious here?

I've got the stock 1.8L and the original hitachi carb.
Thanks!

I gave up looking for throttle cables and starting using bicycle hand brake cables. They dont cost much, and i keep a back up behind or under the seat.

I wrap the cable near the end with some electrical tape, clip off one end THROUGH the tape with a pair of diagonal cutters (to keep the wires from poking out) thread them in from the cab and out through the engine bay. On my carb linkage (weber 32/36) i have a stud on it with a hole in it with a setscrew through the end. It may not look completely stock, but it is functional, inexpensive, and it goes along with the rest of my rig.

That's awesome.

Langhauz, I think my stock throttle cable is intact. Pay for shipping and it's yours. If you haven't heard from me by tomorrow evening, remind me and I'll go check to see if it's still good.

The catch... You have to help a Luv owner out next time you're able.

Hasn't anybody thought of using a universal cable from a manufacturer like Lokar? They make them for street rods...why wouldn't one work for a LUV?
